  • New school board gets low marks

    Oops!
The new majority on the Jefferson County Board of Education made serious errors of both judgment and process in ramming though a contract to hire outside counsel for the board. When dealing with the public’s money and the public’s trust, there are right ways to do things, and there are wrong ways to do things. There aren’t many things that could have been more wrong on this contract.

    Editor:

Re: Conservatives take control of Jefferson County school board, Nov. 13.

My wife and I are fairly new in Jeffco, and while we don’t have any children in school, we did vote for the three losing candidates for the school board.

  • November: a time to remember and a time to act

    By Ellen Golombek

Before he served in Congress and before he went to the White House, Lt. John F. Kennedy commanded torpedo boats in the South Pacific during World War II. His distinguished military career resulted in being awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal and the Purple Heart. He was proud of his service and once said, “I can imagine no more rewarding a career.”

  • Plea deal makes sense for Holmes

It’s time to make a deal with James Holmes.

As we approach the year and a half anniversary of the tragedy of the Aurora theater shootings and as the pretrial hearings continue (and continue and continue!), it looks less and less likely that Holmes will ever be executed. It would be in the public interest to get some kind of plea in place that assures Holmes will spend the rest of his life in custody, to achieve final resolution and to put this ordeal to bed once and for all.

    More bad baggage for ObamaCare
    Editor:
If Denver International Airport’s fondly remembered 1-square-mile automated baggage system could never be made fully operational, how can the ObamaCare computer fiasco (created by a company that failed province-wide in Ontario, Canada) be made to function nationwide?

  • Details on pet licensing in Jeffco

Residents of unincorporated Jefferson County have been required to license their dogs since 1994. In 2007, Lakewood, Golden, Wheat Ridge, Westminster and Arvada joined the county’s licensing program, and residents in those cities have been required to license their canines ever since.
