Man allegedly killed by wife in South Jeffco

Jeffco Sheriff's Office now believe a woman stabbed her husband and then turned the knife on herself in South Jeffco Monday. 

Michael Schreiber, 69, died on Monday after being allegedly stabbed by his wife, Sandra Lee Schreiber, 59 in their home at 7835 W. Ontario Place in the Columbine West neighborhood, according to the Jeffco Sheriff's Office. 

Colorado's newest state park set to debut

Conifer’s newest neighbor is settled in and ready to host its first open house.

After several delays, Staunton State Park will open to the public this weekend with a two-day grand opening packed with events and activities.

“This has been a long time coming, and I’m excited to share this amazing park with others,” said park manager Jennifer Anderson.

Center supports veterans at Arapahoe Community College

Veterans at Arapahoe Community College have a new home base at school. 

The Veterans Service Center, which opened last month, was created by ACC to help meet the needs of the influx of veterans signing up for classes, said Nancy Nickless, Veterans Affairs certifying official and financial aid counselor for ACC. 

Political newcomer running for Boggs’ school board seat

A political newcomer has announced a bid for the Jeffco school board seat currently held by fiscal conservative Laura Boggs.

Jeff Lamontagne, co-founder of the Second Wind Fund, recently announced he is running for the Board of Education seat in District 2, which covers a sprawling area in the western part of the county.

Arrests made in identity theft ring

Several people have been arrested in connection with an alleged identity theft ring in Jeffco and Denver, and four suspects remain at large.
District Attorney Peter Weir announced Wednesday that a Jeffco grand jury had issued a 156-count indictment against 11 people alleged to be members of the ID theft ring.  
The ring is accused of stealing almost $26,000 from residents and businesses between April 2012 and last January.

Littleton City Council denies request for development moratorium

A proposal by a group of Littleton residents to place a moratorium on any residential rezoning that would increase density and traffic failed to win approval from the City Council. 

The proposal, presented to the City Council by resident John Watson on May 7, would have placed a moratorium until Jan. 1, 2014, on any rezoning request, land-use approval application, building permit or any other permit that would increase residential density and traffic.

Boggs blocks filming at school board meeting

Jeffco schools Superintendent Cindy Stevenson summoned security at last Thursday’s board meeting when school board member Laura Boggs tried to prevent a district employee from recording video of a speaker.

Broomfield resident Kelly Scott was addressing the board about his desire for schools to get back to Judeo-Christian roots and teachings when Boggs stood and blocked the iPad camera of communications manager Marlene Desmond.

Carson, Evans carry Eagles past Rebels

Bryce, without a doubt, was the star of the game.  Whether that was Bryce Carson or Bryce Evans is debatable.
Carson was the hero, Evans kept Dakota Ridge in the game, and the Eagles pulled out a 5-4 win in walk-off fashion over Columbine on May 4 at Dakota Ridge High School.
