  • Mustangs put Rebels’ league...

With the battle for the Class 5A Jeffco League boys basketball championship heating up, Columbine looked to all but clinch the title Feb. 10. But contender Ralston Valley wouldn’t let up and the Mustangs handed the Rebels their second league loss of the season.
Even with 22 points from junior Jon Snow, the Rebels (16-4, 11-2 5A Jeffco) couldn’t seem to get their defensive game settled and the Mustangs took the 63-61 victory.

  • Chatfield’s big win has it on...

One doesn’t have to ask Chatfield head coach Mark Glombecki twice. There was no question this was the Chargers’ biggest win of the season. And it couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time.
With Aspen and Summit nipping out its heels for one of the final playoff spots in the Foothills Conference, Chatfield, behind two Tyler Seltenreich goals, scored a 7-1 victory over the visiting Sailors at the Edge Ice Arena.

  • National signing day

The first Wednesday in February holds a lot of meaning for student-athletes. For many, it's the bridging of their lives from high school to college, from adolescence to adulthood. The Lady Chargers (9-11, 5-8 5A Jeffco League), who avenged a 54-53 loss at Dakota Ridge on Jan. 11, honored five seniors prior to the game. But it was the entire team that responded in the victory. Only senior Brittany Bame, out with a torn knee ligaments, wasn’t able to contribute on the court, but her presence was definitely felt by both teams.

  • Hoffschneider repeats at Jeffco...

LAKEWOOD — Nick Hoffschneider won a second consecutive 5A Jeffco League tournament championship Feb. 4 at Bear Creek, scoring a 9-1 win over Pomona’s Ramon Yslas in the final round.
The Columbine 182-pounder was the lone local champion crowned at this year’s tournament, which was relocated from Elizabeth High School due to heavy snow.

  • Kuhr’s win paces Columbine

ARVADA — Even with several feet of snow altering the schedule of the 5A Jeffco League swimming championships Columbine did not disappoint.
Finishing behind powerhouse Ralston Valley and a tough Lakewood squad, the Lady Rebels edged out Chatfield for third place by a mere two points on Feb. 4 at the George J. Meyers pool. This came after wintry weather forced the prelims from Feb. 3 to the morning of the finals.
“I’m a little speechless,” Rebels coach Kristi Marosy. “I think they did a great job.”
