  • Spillar runs down crown

McKenna Spillar could see Pomona’s Alaina Anderson up ahead of her on the 3.1-mile course that is Clement Park, but the Dakota Ridge senior couldn’t be so certain she would catch her. After all, Anderson is widely considered the best cross country runner in the 5A Jeffco League, and rightfully so.
But with each step Spillar took she could see herself getting closer to Anderson. Before long she passed  the struggling Pomona runner and found herself leading the pack. Then she saw the finish line. That’s the last little bit of motivation Spillar needed.

When the hits come, the runs come. And when the runs come, they come in bunches for the Dakota Ridge softball team.
The Lady Eagles advanced to the 5A state tournament with three big innings in an 18-0 win over Northglenn and an 8-1 win over Grandview on Oct. 13 in the Region 8 tournament at Columbine High School.

  • Delay worth wait for Chatfield

ARVADA — Five outs. That’s all the Chatfield Lady Chargers needed Oct. 14 at Youth Memorial Sports Complex to completely erase a 2011 meltdown in the 5A regionals.
But just like last year is a distant memory of the past, Chatfield moved on from a rain delay one day earlier that suspended the finish of its 5A Region 5 championship game with Grand Junction. The Lady Chargers’ focus was solely on finishing a job that they had started 24 hours earlier.

  • Energized Lady Chargers keep...

Eight times Chatfield had set point  and eight times the Lady Chargers couldn’t convert. Yet, even though Chatfield was denied in the second set of its 5A Jeffco League home match with Dakota Ridge the outcome seemingly motivated the Lady Chargers.

  • Rebels cash in on Chargers’...

LAKEWOOD — Andy Lowry walked off the field Oct. 4 at Jeffco Stadium unaware until moments earlier when he learned that Columbine’s 38-15 victory over Chatfield was his 200th victory. But in all fairness to the modest Lowry, he’s never been one to concern himself with such facts
