THORNTON — The goals were modest ones, all things considered, for the Chatfield Lady Chargers. They were hoping to nab their highest score of the season and finish ninth of higher at the 5A state gymnastics championships. Unfortunately, neither was accomplished.
Chatfield finished 12th in the field with 171.3 points on Nov. 1 at Thornton High School. The Lady Chargers came in seeded ninth and looking for a higher finish, but the state jitters took their toll.

LAKEWOOD — After losing senior starting offensive tackle Denis Tsimbalist on the day of Chatfield’s first 5A football playoff game, head coach Bret McGatlin reminded his team about the 2010 Green Bay Packers, who won that season’s Super Bowl as the No. 6 seed in the NFC and with 16 players on injured reserve.
He also mentioned to them the fact the Chargers had not won a postseason game since 2008, going 0-3 in the ensuing four-year stretch, including last year’s 29-7 loss to Eaglecrest.

A common theme prevailed for Chatfield, Columbine and Evergreen’s top gymnasts at the 5A/4A Jeffco League championships on Oct. 19 at Evergreen High School: good but there's room for improvement heading into this week’s regionals and the following week’s state meets.
