  • Mustangs sweep Chargers

DENVER – Taylor Rogers didn’t plead the fifth when asked how Chatfield got swept by Mullen in a doubleheader June 9.

Rogers, instead, used the Bull Durham defense.

"It was just one of those days where everybody was kind of lollygagging," Rogers said after the Chargers’ 14-game winning streak was halted and a losing streak began at Bill Swift Field.

Coaches Skip and Larry would be proud of the honest assessment.

  • One last hurrah

DENVER — While leads can disappear in a flash at Coors Field, the memories of playing there will not.

Three local prep players got one last game at the Colorado Rockies ballpark Sunday, June 8, as a part of the annual Top 50 baseball game.

The Silver team, with Dakota Ridge standouts Eric Cain and J.C. Ochoa, saw its lead evaporate in the bottom of the seventh as the Purple squad, which included Chatfield catcher Jake Davis, scored four runs to win 8-7.

  • Cunningham preparing for the...

Curtis Cunningham is just a little guy again.

Yes, it seems almost impossible to imagine that the Columbine graduate – a standout defensive lineman and hard-swinging first baseman – could ever be small in any situation, but he is. Figuratively speaking, of course.

Cunningham started classes this week at the University of Colorado and began running and lifting weights last week with his new Buffaloes teammates in hopes of making coach Dan Hawkins’ squad this fall as a true freshman.

  • A new era begins

    The shadow cast is large.

    The legacy? Undeniable.

Peter Horvath spent the past 25 years building Columbine's boys and girls soccer programs into some of the state's best.

LAKEWOOD- The Durango girls soccer team may have traveled to its game on a luxury Coachliner-like bus, but it was Chatfield who played with all the style.
