AURORA — Columbine had No. 2 seed Brighton, a favorite to win the Class 5A state softball title, on the ropes in the opening round.
The Rebels (14-9 record) held a 3-0 lead going into the sixth inning. However, the Bulldogs (19-4) bit back in a big way with a five-run bottom of the sixth inning on the way to a 5-4 victory.
“We just gave it everything we had because we didn’t want it to be over,” teary-eyed Columbine junior pitcher Jenni Romero said after the season-ending loss.
