Dines, Jaguars hold off Basalt in 1A playoff opener
    BASALT
    — Chad Dines completed 13-of-19 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns and No. 9 D’Evelyn held off host Basalt 27-20 in the first round of the 2A state football playoffs.
Josh Riggs caught two of those touchdown passes as part of his four receptions for 102 yards. Rome McIntyre caught the other TD pass.
The Jaguars (8-2) will play top-seeded La Junta (10-0) in the 2A quarterfinals on Nov. 11-12 at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood.

  • Chatfield charges back late

LAKEWOOD — The concern was evident. Be it Tylor Rowles, Dalton Keene or anyone on the Chatfield Chargers sideline, there were some anxious moments, and rightfully so.

Down 29-17 with the clock winding down on the third quarter, the possibility was real that No. 2 Chatfield was about to lose control of the 4A Plains League to an inspired Dakota Ridge squad fighting for its playoff life Oct. 28 at Jeffco Stadium.

    Then the comeback started.

  • D’Evelyn boys miss out on goal, ...

COLORADO SPRINGS — There was no question that D’Evelyn had its hopes set high — real high.

The Jaguars came into the 3A state cross country championships on Oct. 29 eyeing Alamosa and a boys team championship. Alamosa, the top-ranked team in 3A, won a state title in 2014 and one in 4A five years earlier.

IDAHO SPRINGS — On senior night at Golddigger Stadium, a matchup between Clear Creek and the Front Range Christian looked poised to be an offensive showcase with the Falcons coming in averaging 152.4 rushing yards a game and Clear Creek averaging 214.9 yards passing behind the arm of Ty Judge.

  • Eagles’ run comes to an end

AURORA — Sure, it would’ve been easy to write off the Dakota Ridge Lady Eagles. After all, barely two weeks into the season, they were just 2-7, hardly a contender for the 5A state championship. Earning a berth to another state tournament looked bleak at best.

Then came a much-needed win over ThunderRidge – one of 5A’s top-ranked teams — early in the season.

  • D’Evelyn dominates at regionals

THORNTON — There are times when one does well, and then there are times when you go above and beyond, and exceed expectations. That’s what the D’Evelyn boys’ cross country team did at regionals.

The Jaguars, with five runners in the top eight, were dominant at the 3A Region 5 championships on Oct. 21 at the Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center, winning the team title with a minuscule 24 points. Skyview Academy was a distant second with 58.

  • D’Evelyn overcomes sluggish...

LAKEWOOD — D’Evelyn, most certainly, didn’t come out ready to play its 4A Jeffco League volleyball tournament opener against Wheat Ridge on Oct. 20. A timeout, however, rectified the slow start.
