    ATHLETICS
    Speed and agility camp set for Dakota Ridge High School
    Dakota Ridge High School is hosting its annual speed and agility camp from June 3-July 3.
    The camp runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is open to children in grades 2 through 12.
    The camp runs from 9-10:15 a.m., for grades 2-9 and from 10:30-11:30 for grades 10-12.
    Cost is $85. Brochures are available in the main office at Dakota Ridge High School and online at the school’s website at https://sites.google.com/a/jeffcoschools.us/dakota-hs/.

  • Motivated Rebels tune up for the...

    LAKEWOOD — The motivation for the Columbine Rebels since Day 1 has been to win a state boys lacrosse championship. And that desire has not ebbed — a fact Boulder found out the hard way on May 4 at Trailblazer Stadium.
    Ryan Kelly scored the Rebels’ first six goals — all in the first period — and Jake Gonzales added four tallies as Columbine used the visiting Panthers as a steppingstone in their quest in a 20-3 regular-season finale victory. In all, nine players scored for the Rebels (11-5, 7-0 5A Front Range).

  • Carson, Evans carry Eagles past...

    Bryce, without a doubt, was the star of the game.  Whether that was Bryce Carson or Bryce Evans is debatable.
    Carson was the hero, Evans kept Dakota Ridge in the game, and the Eagles pulled out a 5-4 win in walk-off fashion over Columbine on May 4 at Dakota Ridge High School.

  • Next stop is state for Columbine...

    HIGHLANDS RANCH — Lillie Pettibone’s made the 5A girls tennis state tournament before. While the achievement has always been impressive, the credit has been split with a doubles partner. This year, she’s going all on her own.
    Pettibone, playing No. 2 singles this season, was the lone state qualifier for Columbine on May 3 at Redstone Park in the Class 5A Region 7 tournament. She won in the playback bracket and will head to the Gates Tennis Center on May 9 to represent the Lady Rebels.

  • Lady Chargers answer back

    LAKEWOOD — Julia Lisella seemed to be infallible in goal. Robyn Thomas and Taylor Campman took advantage of Columbine’s stingy defense to generate offense, scoring three goals in 35.1 seconds. Everything seemingly was going the Lady Rebels’ way. And then it didn’t.

  • Cyclists, residents discuss road...

    Nearly 100 concerned cyclists and Deer Creek Canyon residents joined Jeffco County Commissioner Donald Rosier at the Sampson Community Club building in Littleton last Wednesday to discuss safety on the canyon’s roads.

    “The issue here is safety,” Rosier told the packed house. “Nobody here is happy with the way things are now, and that’s why we’re here tonight.”

    Van Lingen to replace Atencio as Dakota Ridge head coach
    Marv Van Lingen, Dakota Ridge’s junior varsity softball coach, has been named the school’s varsity softball coach, according to athletic director Matt Heckel.
    Van Lingen replaces Dave Atencio, who resigned in March to take the varsity head coaching position at Valor Christian.
    Atencio coached Dakota Ridge to nine state tournament apperances in his 17 years at the helm with the Lady Eagles, including a berth in last year’s title game.

  • Gators steal narrow win from...

    LAKEWOOD — Columbine shortstop Michael Burns took off for home plate. The Rebels senior thought his hand got under the tag, though he did feel the catcher’s glove on his shoulder. It was a bang-bang play for sure.
    “I thought I had the bag. The kid had a long motion going home. Maybe I got a bad jump, but I thought I had the bag,” Burns said.

  • Bats slow to show up for Eagles

    LAKEWOOD — If there’s one thing Jack Kortarba and the Dakota Ridge Eagles don’t lack, it’s confidence. They believe they can score at any time, even when they’re trailing by eight runs.
    That’s what Dakota Ridge did April 27 at Keli McGregor Field at All-Star Park. The only problem was, the Eagles didn’t score enough runs. Their six-run rally, while valiant, wasn’t enough, as the Eagles suffered their first 5A Jeffco League loss 11-8 to Ralston Valley.

  • Chargers come up clutch late

    LAKEWOOD — Realistically, Chatfield Senior girls soccer coach Brock Blume said, freshman Bree Bezdek should have 10 goals this season, but she has only four. That’s how good she is and can be. Blume almost certainly is going to be a player to watch in the future.
