  • Rebels have goal options

LITTLETON — Columbine senior Tatum Barton admits she demands a lot from her younger sister, freshman Tessa Barton, on the soccer field.

“Probably,” Tatum Barton answered when asked if she is a little hard on her younger sister. “It’s because I love her.”

  • Timely hits MIA for Columbine

LAKEWOOD — Failing to get the third out to end innings came back to bite Columbine in its Class 5A Jeffco League baseball opener April 9 on Keli McGregor Field at All Star Park.

Ralston Valley (5-3, 1-0 in league) scored six of its nine runs with two outs Saturday afternoon. Columbine, on the other hand, stranded 11 runners, six in scoring position, in a 9-2 loss.

LAKEWOOD — Columbine’s girls lacrosse team found itself on the wrong side of a dramatic second-half rally April 7 at Trailblazer Stadium.

The Rebels seemed to have everything in hand when sophomore Maeve Hungerford scored with 13 minutes, 26 seconds left in the second half to give Columbine a 9-5 lead on Jeffco League rival Ralston Valley. However, the Mustangs (4-1, 2-0 in Jeffco League) scored five unanswered goals in a span of just less than two minutes to take a 10-9 lead.

LAKEWOOD — A rough two weeks of weather postponed a pair of non-league games and forced D’Evelyn’s girls soccer team into a confined indoor space.

“We’ve been playing in our gym. We play good in a gym space,” D’Evelyn coach Paul Moline could say with a smile after a 3-1 loss to Wheat Ridge on April 5 at Lakewood Memorial Field.

LAKEWOOD — Taking the field is something Columbine’s boys lacrosse team won’t take for granted this season.

LAKEWOOD — The positive steps Dakota Ridge’s boys lacrosse team took during its spring break trip to California got plowed away like the snow from a Colorado blizzard.

The Eagles (1-5 record, 0-1 in league) picked up their first win of the season during the three-game trip to the west coast and played in another pair of close games. However, the momentum didn’t carry over in Dakota Ridge’s Front Range League opener against Boulder (2-3, 1-0) on April 1 at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood.
