  • Mustangs’ hitting  denies  Eagles

ARVADA — Caryle Levy didn’t mince her words. If anything, the Dakota Ridge pitcher shouldered the blame for an ineffective outing.

“I had an off game pitching. That affected me,” the senior pitcher said.

Chatfield boys tennis will be hosting regionals this week after an undefeated 5A Jeffco League season.

The Chargers finished their 6-0 season stronger than ever last week. They defeated long-time rival Columbine on Sept. 27 at Marker Park and then beat Ralston Valley the next day, winning both matches 7-0.

  • Tait wraps up four-year run at...

As Marcus Tait looks back on his senior season, the boys’ golfer from Columbine High School had some good rounds and some not-so-good ones. The finish wasn’t what he would have preferred, tying for 24th at the 5A state golf tournament at Bookcliff Country Club in Grand Junction, but, overall, it was a good year.

Tait shot an 11-over 153 at state.

  • Dakota Ridge gets late turnover...

LAKEWOOD -- Heartbreak has been the name of the game for Dakota Ridge (2-3) this season. Entering their homecoming game against Wheat Ridge (1-4) on Sept. 30 at Jefferson County Stadium, the Eagles had played in three games decided by seven points or less and had lost all three of them. It looked like the trend would continue until an improbable rally gave Dakota Ridge a 35-32 victory.

Dakota Ridge recovered a fumble by Wheat Ridge with less than 2 minutes left and then scored with 18.3 seconds remaining to get the win.

  • Kehoe’s interception jumpstarts...

LAKEWOOD — The D’Evelyn Jaguars defeated the Platte Valley Broncos 22-12 in a non-conference home game at Trailblazer Stadium on Sept. 23.

ARVADA — Clutch hitting by the bottom of Columbine’s line-up guided the Rebels to a nice Class 5A Jeffco League softball road victory on Sept. 24.

LAKEWOOD — If the Sept. 21 game at Lakewood Memorial Field was any indication, the race for the Class 4A Jeffco League title will be a wild one.

D’Evelyn, ranked No. 9 in this week’s CHSAANow.com 4A boys’ soccer poll, knocked off defending 4A state champ Evergreen in a 3-2 overtime thriller. It was the conference opener for both teams.

  • Rebels’ Kuhn takes 7th at...

There’s just something special about running in the Dave Sanders Invitational, especially if you’re a Columbine Rebel, like Jerod Kuhn. That’s understandable.

The event was even more meaningful with the Rebels wearing green ribbons in honor of Peak to Peak runner Brandon Ries, who passed away after running in the Broomfield Invitational a week earlier.

  • Rebels ground the Chargers

LAKEWOOD — If one knows Columbine head coach Andy Lowry’s approach, as it has almost always been, it’s to run the football.

That has always been the Rebels’ bread-and-butter game plan. Pound and ground, pound and ground.

  • Columbine to host annual "...

The Columbine High School volleyball program will be holding its annual "Think Pink" charity event on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The Lady Rebels will be hosting Denver East.

Donations will be given to Sense of Security, an organization that helps low income breast cancer patients in the Denver area with needs, such as rent, utilities, groceries, etc. Each person who makes a donation will receive a ticket for a chance to win door prizes.
