  • Seasoned Huskies turn the tables...

    By Craig Harper
    For the Courier

Here’s a recommendation: Front Range Christian-Platte Canyon III in 2016, a baseball rubber game that would feature a more level playing field.

  • Regis rallies, tops Chargers in...

AURORA — Between innings, first-year Chatfield Senior baseball coach Paul Grubesic joked with Regis Jesuit head coach Matt Darr that it was too early in the season to be playing games like this.

He was referring to a top-10 showdown between 5A schools that saw infallible starting pitching early and see-saw hitting late.

  • Lady Chargers’ comeback falls...

LAKEWOOD — Kendra Lanuza does the bulk of the scoring for the Chatfield Lady Chargers, but the University of Denver-bound lacrosse player can’t do it all. She needs a little help, and that’s exactly what her team is searching for early in the season.

Though Eliza Radochonski and Holly Sutherland scored four goals apiece as fourth-ranked Cherry Creek held off a spirited rally from Chatfield for a 15-13 victory March 14 at Trailblazer Stadium, the Lady Chargers didn’t wilt even when the Lady Bruins tried to pull away time and again.

  • FRC loses to Sheridan in blowout

    By Craig Harper
    For the Courier

Front Range Christian’s venture into 2A boys regional basketball play was literally over before the 2-minute mark of the first quarter.

But the Falcons refused to let the 61-34 blowout at the hands of a taller and deeper Peyton squad on March 6 at Sheridan High School put a damper on their season.

  • Cherry Creek clips Dakota Ridge...

LOVELAND — They played and played and played some more. Almost all night. Catch your breath; this might go on forever.

It actually was six overtimes between Cherry Creek and Dakota Ridge in the longest game in Colorado high school hockey history. Then it was over. Chris Nitchen’s game-winning goal 36 seconds into the sixth overtime helped Cherry Creek end Dakota Ridge’s season with a 3-2 loss in the state ice hockey semifinals on March 5 at the Budweiser Events Center.

  • Legend holds off underdog...

Second-seeded Legend held off a furious rally by Columbine for a 59-57 win in the second round of the Ray Ball Region of the 5A state tournament on Feb. 28.

The loss ended the Rebels’ season with a 15-10 record.

Columbine advanced out of the first round three days earlier with a 71-57 home victory over Hinkley.

  • Lady Falcons, despite loss,...

Front Range Christian may have dropped the third-place game of the 2A District 4 tournament 32-17 to Denver Christian on Feb. 28 at Vista Peak High School, but it gained so much more four days earlier.

The Lady Falcons (3-19) scored a 34-30 win over Limon in the pigtail game Feb. 24 to lock up a regional tournament berth. The Lady Falcons lost to top-seeded Byers, 53-25, in the semifinals two days later. Front Range Christian will play Peyton on March 6 at Mullen High School in the Central Regional. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
