  • Eagles soaring into key league...

LITTLETON — It appears Dakota Ridge baseball is getting into the swing of things.

The Eagles (6-3, 1-0 in Class 5A Jeffco League) outscored Mountain Vista, Chaparral and Pomona 27-3 in the span of six days last week to run Dakota Ridge’s winning streak to five games.

  • Walking in the park with Jean

If you visit South Valley, Deer Creek Canyon or Hildebrand park on any given morning, you just might see Jean Viste hiking along a trail.

For nearly 17 years the Ken Caryl resident has been walking trails in South Valley, Deer Creek Canyon and other area parks while serving as a volunteer for Jeffco Open Space. She has helped hikers locate their cars, closed trails where the presence of bears and mountain lions presented danger, and administered first-aid to the injured.

    Mosquito net project

Dakota Ridge High School exchange student Emmanuel Mwinbong is doing a community service project to help his home country of Ghana. Mwinbong is asking for donations of mosquito nets or money to buy nets to bring back with him to Ghana and help with the awareness of the malaria endemic.

The fund-raiser will be Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16, at Jeffco Stadium during the two-day Pomona Invitational track meet. Nearly 60 track teams from across the state are scheduled to participate in the meet.

  • Dakota Ridge LAX rolled by...

LAKEWOOD — The positive steps Dakota Ridge’s boys lacrosse team took during its spring break trip to California got plowed away like the snow from a Colorado blizzard.

The Eagles (1-5 record, 0-1 in league) picked up their first win of the season during the three-game trip to the west coast and played in another pair of close games. However, the momentum didn’t carry over in Dakota Ridge’s Front Range League opener against Boulder (2-3, 1-0) on April 1 at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood.

  • Rebels begin run at 5th straight...

LAKEWOOD — Taking the field is something Columbine’s boys lacrosse team won’t take for granted this season.

The Rebels were scheduled to play three games in California during spring break. However, Columbine’s flight that was scheduled to leave Denver International Airport on March 23 was canceled because of the blizzard that began early Wednesday morning.

  • Blinking not recommended

The spring sports season is in full swing.

However, if you blink you may very well miss it. I encourage high school sports fans to check out the spring sports over the next two months before it’s all over in a hurry.

  • By the Numbers - 2015-16 Winter...

LITTLETON — Here is a gaze back at the 2015-16 prep sports winter season for teams in South Jeffco, with some key numbers to help tell the story.

The numbers of years between Class 5A boys basketball state Final Four appearances for Chatfield.

  • Chargers cool under pressure

LITTLETON — Believe it or not, Chatfield’s baseball team is well ahead of where it was at this point last season.

Yes, the Chargers advanced all the way to the Class 5A state championship game before falling short in the title game against Rock Canyon. However, Chatfield didn’t win its third game of the 2015 season until April 20. A rough 1-8 start before Chatfield’s remarkable late-season run is something that still sticks with this current group of Chargers.

  • Plenty of grit for Eagles

LAKEWOOD — There will be growing pains for Dakota Ridge’s boys lacrosse team this spring.

A handful of costly errors kept the Eagles (0-2 record) from winning their season opener against Chaparral on March 14 at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood.
