The 2016 season officially kicked off last Thursday night in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., but, in earnest, the new campaign gets rolling this week with all five South Jeffco schools in action. The season brings changes across the board with four of the five teams starting a new quarterback, while conferences have changed and so have opponents as CHSAA underwent a more balanced division of teams across all classifications.
There are the pros and cons to what the 2016-17 football realignment brings to the table: an equal number of teams in 5A down the ladder, new rivalries on the horizon and some old foes back on the schedule.
AUG. 29, 1996 AN INAUSPICIOUS START • Other than it was the first game of the inaugural season there wasn’t much else one would want to remember from Dakota Ridge’s 45-0 loss to Regis Jesuit at Jeffco Stadium in Lakewood. The game was all but over by halftime with the Eagles trailing 31-0. Regis Jesuit’s Dan Hurley rushed for 137 yards and three scores.
