A 15-year-old Chatfield High School student was seriously injured after being involved in a hit-and-run accident Thursday afternoon.

Around 2:44 p.m., the male, who hasn't been identified, was crossing at a crosswalk near the intersection of West Chatfield Avenue and West Ken Caryl Avenue close to Chatfield Senior High School. According to witnesses who spoke with the Colorado State Patrol, a blue/grayish Toyota Prius hit the 15-year-old and drove off.

The victim was transported to Littleton Adventist Hospital with serious injuries. Trooper Gary Cutler with CSP couldn't elaborate on the specifics of the victim’s injuries nor could he confirm his current condition.

“At this point, that’s all we’ve got,” Cutler said.

Colorado State Patrol is the lead investigative agency on this case but was assisted at the scene by the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office and West Metro Fire Rescue. CSP troopers are currently searching the area for others who may have witnessed the accident and checking for cameras that may have caught some of the incident on film.

The vehicle hasn't been found but would have heavy front-end damage, according to Cutler. Those with information are asked to call CSP dispatch at *CSP (277) or 303-239-4501. Reference case number #1A180130.
