A crash on South Kipling Parkway between Ken-Caryl Avenue and Chatfield Drive left two people dead on the evening of April 6.

One of the drivers, Diane Iannella, 66 of Littleton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Armando Mendez, 39 of Littleton, was transported to Littleton Hospital where he died of his injuries.

According to the State Patrol, Mendez was driving a Chevy Tahoe northbound in the southbound lanes of Kipling when he hit Iannella’s southbound red Jeep Grand Cherokee, causing her car to roll over.

Mendez’s car then struck the grey Jeep Grand Cherokee driving behind Iannella. That driver, a woman from Lakewood, was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. A 3-year-old boy who was also in the gray Jeep had been properly restrained in a car seat and was uninjured, according to the State Patrol.

The State Patrol said they were investigating whether drugs and/or alcohol were involved in the accident.

The accident shut down northbound Kipling at Chatfield while it was being investigated.
