An Arvada man died Monday afternoon after his motorcycle hit a guardrail along westbound Interstate 70 near Lookout Mountain. A female passenger was transported with serious injuries.
Around 12:25 p.m., Allen Rael, 68, was driving the motorcycle carrying himself and Patricia Rael, 59, up westbound I-70 past the Morrison/Dinosaur Ridge exit and toward Lookout Mountain.
Near mile marker 259, the motorcycle hit a guardrail on the far left side of the westbound lanes.
Allen Rael was pronounced dead at the scene, and Patricia Rael, also of Arvada, was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood.
Investigators believe that Allen Rael was driving under the influence at the time of the accident and that speed was not a factor, Colorado State Trooper Josh Lewis said.
All I-70 westbound lanes and at least one eastbound lane in the area were closed for investigation for about two-and-a-half hours.
