Bicyclist injured in accident on Pierce Street

The Colorado State Patrol responded to an accident last Wednesday afternoon involving a 24-year-old man on a bicycle and a 2005 BMW driven by a 30-year-old male, according to Trooper Nate Reid.

The crash occurred just after 3 p.m. on South Pierce Street between West Portland and Coal Mine avenues. The bicyclist, Eric Rooney, was transported to Littleton Adventist Hospital with moderate, non-life threatening injuries, said Colorado State Trooper Josh Lewis. The driver of the BMW was not injured.

Rooney was cited for careless operation of a bicycle that led to an accident. 

A witness said Rooney's shoes and hat were in the road after the accident, and the automobile was heavily damaged. Good Samaritans held a blanket over Rooney to shield thim from the hot afternoon sun.
