New retirement community to open in Littleton

Sky Pointe Retirement Resort hosted a groundbreaking Monday for the new Littleton retirement community.

The latest Resort Lifestyle Communities facility, which is set to officially open in about a year, will offer studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The $30 million project is on a 10-acre site in South Jeffco on South Taft Street.

It provides an “all-inclusive luxury resort” style feel for those who live there. In addition to meals, and valet and concierge services, there will be a “robust calendar of events and activities,” and a Main Street area with a salon, bank, movie theater, fitness center and more.

“Adults 55 and plus can just enjoy life and leave the rest up to us,” said Kelly Jo Hinrichs, who works in marketing for Resort Lifestyle Communities.

In the months prior to opening, the resort will be hosting a variety of information seminars that will allow prospective residents to be guests for lunch and dinner. Eventually, residents will be able to put down a deposit on one of the 128 rentable apartments and become charter residents of Sky Pointe.

New swim school in Littleton

A new swim school has come to Littleton.

SwimLabs, a unique swim training facility, aims to teach swimmers of all ages the best mechanics for water safety and swimming success. The school, which has indoor, warm-water pools, teaches swimming lessons and provides analysis for competitive swimmers.

“We film under water and can give them very specific feedback about their stroke,” said owner Heather Haugen.

The system was developed by the Olympic training center and is exclusive to SwimLabs. There also are video cameras in the pool areas and under the water so parents have the opportunity to sit in the lobby and watch their child swim.

But according to Haugen, the people who work at SwimLabs are what makes it truly special.

“The people that work here … are really passionate about swimming and serving customers,” she said.

The new Littleton location is on Crestline Drive, just north of West Bowles Avenue. It is one of 14 SwimLabs schools in six states.

There are a variety of classes to choose from, including small-group lessons, swim camps and private and semi-private instruction sessions.

Those interested can call SwimLabs at 720-699-0001 or visit www.swimlabs.com/Littleton to sign up.
