West Bowles Avenue has been reopened after a gas leak shut down the road for about an hour Thursday morning.
The leak, which has since been capped, was caused by a construction project near South Jellison Street and West Bowles Avenue, according to Ronda Scholting with West Metro Fire Rescue.
“(The construction project) … nicked a gas line, which, of course, caused it to spew gas in the area,” Scholting said.
While she couldn't specify how much gas was spilled, she said there was “a pretty good amount.”
The leak created a heavy smell of gas in the area. Residents are asked to avoid the area during repairs and cleanup.
