The Edgewater Police Department is looking for suspects wanted in connection with the Thursday night murder of a D’Evelyn Jr/Sr High School graduate.

Andrew Jenicek, 27, was going to pick up food from a restaurant located in the 2000 block of Sheridan Boulevard in Edgewater around 8:40 p.m., when a silver or white sedan pulled up. A passenger got out of the car and shot Jenicek once in the chest. A witness saw the incident and called 911, according to Edgewater Police Chief John Mackey.

Though the police department doesn’t have much information about the shooting, Mackey said it appears to have been random.

In a press release, police describe the shooter as a Hispanic male, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and 150 pounds with black hair in a fade-style haircut. According to the press release, the car could’ve been a Mitsubishi Eclipse. A second person was driving the car, but Mackey didn’t have information about the driver.

Jenicek was living in Lakewood at the time of his death but grew up in Littleton and attended D’Evelyn, where he graduated in 2008, according to his MaxPreps profile. He was active in sports and played varsity football for the school. In 2008, he signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of Sioux Falls.

Those with information on the car or murder are asked to call Jeffcom, the new consolidated dispatch center in Jefferson County, at 303-980-7300.
