Eagles' Vance places ninth at 5A state golf tourney; Sloan cards 173 at 3A meet

GRAND JUNCTION -- Dakota Ridge's Drew Vance shot a 6-over 148 to tie for ninth at the 5A boys golf state championship on Oct. 3-4 at Bookcliff Country Club.
Vance, who placed second at regionals to Chatfield's Nick Berry, was at even-par after Day 1 of the two-day, 36-hole tournament before shooting 6-over on the second day to tie three others.
Berry, who led Chatfield's team to state, placed 13th, one shot back of Vance.
Gus Lundquist of Regis Jesuit shot an even-par 71 on Day 2 to finish with a 2-over 144 total to capture top medalist honors.
Columbine's Greg Shelton tied for 51st with an 18-over 160. Rebels teammate Billy Ramsey won one shot back.
Others scoring for Chatfield were Alan Berry (T60th, 163), Riley Eichler (T65th, 165) and Trey Johnson (T67th, 166).

GUNNISON -- Front Range Christian's Jared Sloan tied for 58th at the 3A state boys golf championship Oct. 3-4 at Dos Rios Golf Club. Sloan carded a 31-over 173.
Sloan shot back-to-back rounds of 83 and 90.
Ethan Freeman of Kent Denver was the top medalist with a 6-under 136 total, including a 5-under 66 on Day 2.
