At least four fire departments responded Wednesday evening to a report of a fire at Columbine High School.

An information officer at the scene said the blaze was under control and that firefighters were checking to be sure the flames had not spread to other areas in the school.

The Jeffco Sheriff's Office said earlier that welders had been working at the school on Wednesday.

Firefighters from the Littleton, Englewood, West Metro and South Metro fire departments responded.

Clement Park immediately west of the school was crowded Wednesday evening for the Red, White & You Fourth of July celebration.
