The Jefferson County emergency notification system will be tested beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.

All landlines will receive a test notification as well as cell phones and emails that have registered with the CodeRED system. Because of the large number of notifications, county officials expect the test to take several hours.

The system is used for Jeffco emergency service agencies, including law enforcement, fire and emergency medical service agencies, to share information with the public during emergencies.

While landlines are automatically included, residents and businesses are asked to register their cell phone numbers and email addresses. According to a press release, registration is important for those without a landline as it is required for anyone who wants to receive the CodeRED notifications.
