By Daniel Laverty

A 55-year-old man wielding a BB gun and threatening to commit suicide died in Conifer on Sunday morning after Jeffco sheriff’s deputies used a Taser on him.

The death occurred in the 30400 block of Sunset Trail just before 8 a.m., according to Jeffco Sheriff’s spokesperson Mark Techmeyer. The man’s name has not yet been released.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, when deputies arrived before 7 a.m., the man was under the influence of drugs, was carrying a BB gun and threatened to commit suicide. After the man refused to drop the BB gun, deputies used a Taser and escorted the man to a sheriff’s vehicle.

Techmeyer said the man started having trouble breathing and, despite efforts to save his life, died at the scene. Techmeyer said the man’s brother was the person who had initially summoned authorities.
