The man found dead in the trunk of a car in South Jeffco last Thursday went missing in Lakewood on May 9, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Dean Clark Wallis, 51, was discovered in the trunk of a white Ford Focus parked at 3505 S. Nelson Circle near the intersection of U.S. 285 and Kipling Street in Lakewood. According to Sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer, the car was parked across the street from an apartment complex along a road where cars frequently park.

A U.S. marshal had been searching for Wallis due to a parole violation and located his car parked on South Nelson Circle. The marshal called the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office after noticing a strange odor coming from the car.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, investigators responded around 2:30 p.m. June 28 and searched the trunk after obtaining a warrant. They discovered a body that was later identified as Wallis.

The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing much information about the case, although it is being investigated as a homicide. Techmeyer said he could not share any information about how Wallis died, how long he had been dead or how he went missing.

“I know we’re being awful tight lipped, but it’s just an ongoing homicide investigation so we’ve got to guard some of the information,” he said.

Techmeyer did say Wallis had been in federal prison in Arizona for some time and was living in Lakewood when he went missing.

Those with information about the case are asked to contact the Jeffco Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612 or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
