Rob Lohman with Lifted from the Rut will host the second Navigating the World of Addiction event on Saturday.

Schedules for 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Front Range Christian School’s Performing Arts Center, the event will feature educational opportunities, speakers, informational booths, an author table and more. The all-day event centers on addiction and recovery with a focus on the family.

Lohman sees the family as an integral part of addiction recovery.

“Any treatment center I refer people to has to deal with the family unit,” he said. “Addiction is a family disease.”

Among the speakers at Saturday’s event will be Randy Grimes, a former player for the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Katie Donovan and Brittany Sherfield, a mother-daughter duo; and Trisha Grose, a Colorado mom who lost her son in 2015 to a heroin overdose.

Lohman, a recovered addict, began Lifted from the Rut more than a year ago. Through the nonprofit organization, he conducts family, business and individual interventions, does recovery coaching and provides a sober transport system to escort people to treatment facilities.

The second Navigating the World of Addiction event is being hosted just five months after the first. Lohman said that he received tremendous community support from the first event.

Another key part of Saturday’s event will be the opportunity for professionals to earn continuing education credits, Lohman said.
