Co-creator and mastermind behind the design of Sonic The Hedgehog, Naoto Ohshima, speaks on Twitter in a recent tweet about the story and previous design drafts for Sega’s Blue Hedgehog.
In the end, many ideas led to today’s design
As Naoto Ohshima points out, there were many different designs for the world’s most famous hedgehog design before settling on today’s well-known design. When the idea for Sonic was still in its infancy, the project was still called “Twin Stars”. Here, two brothers must protect the world from a dark evil. Eggman (Dr. Robotnik), but the so-called “Thirteen”. Later in development, however, the idea was scrapped by the twin brothers and the current design was born.
Still very successful today
Today, Sonic is one of the most recognizable video game characters of all time, and the blue hedgehog even made it to the big screen in two major Hollywood movies.
