Rebels stun Cherry Creek in last-second thriller

AURORA — With the clock winding down and a semifinal appearance on the line, the No. 4 Columbine boys lacrosse team was looking to avoid a repeat of its last matchup against No. 5 Cherry Creek.

Tied at 5-5 with under a minute left, junior attacker Taylor Gustafson wasn’t about to let that happen. When the clock struck 29.1 seconds in the fourth quarter, thanks to an amped-up offensive push, Gustafson rocketed the ball into the back of the net to gain the 6-5 advantage.

But the Bruins still had plenty of time to score. They almost did.
