  • Dakota football wins big in huge upset

    LITTLETON — Dakota Ridge gave its fans a homecoming game to remember on Friday at Jeffco Stadium.

    The Eagles fell behind previously undefeated Vista Peak 13-0, then scored the last 18 points to pick up a big 18-13 upset victory.

    Dakota Ridge senior running back Jered Garcia carried much of the load for the Eagles, rushing for 111 yards on 26 carries with three touchdowns. He also had four catches for 32 yards.

    COLORADO SPRINGS — D’Evelyn junior Medhaj Shrestha is trending in the right direction.

    After debuting at the 4A state golf tournament last year, he returned this year at the Club at Flying Horse golf course and shot 21-over par through two rounds on the par-72 course.

    That was good for a three-way tie at 29th place out of 84 competitors.

  • Falcons’ Stablein dominates Runner’s Roost

    BRIGHTON — When it comes to Front Range Christian boys cross country, not much has changed from last year.

    The Falcons have just two male runners, with a superstar in junior Andre Stablein. Last year, he and junior Anthony Earl were the entire Front Range Christian team.

    On Sept. 25 at the Adams County Fairgrounds for the Runner’s Roost Invitational, Stablein flexed his dominance with a blowout victory in the boys’ race, which he ran in 17:39.50. The second placer, Cale Schafer of Valley High School, came in nearly 34 seconds later.

  • Twenty-three Jeffco students named National Merit semifinalists

    Nearly two dozen Jeffco students have been named as 2019 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, including five students in the Evergreen and Conifer areas and 10 from South Jeffco schools.
    Announced Thursday, the 23 semifinalists are among 16,000 students recognized nationally and will compete next spring for 7,500 scholarships worth more than $30 million total.

  • Dakota Ridge grounded by Ponderosa at Jeffco Stadium

    LAKEWOOD — Good things seemed to happen for Ponderosa when the football went into the air on Saturday at Jeffco Stadium despite an early Dakota Ridge lead.

    The Mustangs pulled off a 41-10 road victory against the Eagles, getting away from their normal grind-it-out physical style. The Mustangs had a pair of long touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback Jack Hanenburg and returned two interceptions for defensive scores in the non-league victory.

  • State golf qualifiers

     This year, various golfers from Chatfield, Columbine, Dakota Ridge, D'Evelyn and Front Range Christian. The 5A tournament will be held at the Colorado Springs Country Club, the 4A tournament is at the Flying Horse Golf Club in Colorado Springs and 3A will be at the Boulder Country Club.
