Metro districts interfere with regular property taxes
    Editor:
With the passage of TABOR, there has been an exponential growth of metro districts in Colorado, which were originally employed to fund services such as water, wastewater and trash collection.

  • Taking the next steps on school safety

    Dr. Jason Glass, Jeffco superintendent

On March 14, thousands of Jeffco students participated in a national school walkout effort related to the tragic incident at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. As this protest also involved a political perspective associated with the gun-control issue, Jeffco Public Schools didn’t take a position or formally endorse the walkouts.

  • Realpolitik equals Fair Trade equals a new NAFTA

Soon after the inauguration of President Trump, I wrote a column predicting that the tone and timber of his foreign policy would be that of Realpolitik. Certainly, the months since and the latest tariff pronouncement underscore the validity of this prognostication.

  • Shielded from their transgressions

When the Colorado House of Representatives voted to expel Steve Lebsock, it ended a sorry saga, but did little to put to rest lingering discussions about sexual harassment at the State Capitol.
After Lebsock was accused of sexual harassment by a fellow lawmaker, several other complaints against legislators were filed. Four additional complaints were filed against Lebsock and complaints were filed against one other representative and three senators.

    ‘Facts’ aren’t what were presented
    Editor:
In the last two issues of the Courier, a couple of columnists have written about facts, and how we mostly seem to ignore them. OK, I’ll buy that, but just in case:
To the first columnist, fact No. 1: James Comey, by releasing another investigation into Hillary Clinton’s e-mails just prior to the 2016 presidential election, pretty much torpedoed her run, quite the opposite of collaboration with her campaign that you claim.

  • The enemy within

Recently my son and I watched the movie “The Darkest Hour” about Winston Churchill. We enjoyed it a great deal and, of course, came away with the realization that were it not for the leadership of Churchill World War II most likely would’ve had a different ending.

  • Where have all the adults gone?

This is, indeed, a critical time for our country. Instances of incomprehensible violence are leveraged to produce an intended political agenda.
Traumatized and grieving victims are given no time for healing. Rather, their very personal post-traumatic stress is sensationalized and publicized. Children are being used by adults to further an agenda, an agenda that is in direct conflict with the U.S. Second Amendment.
