    Chatfield diver Hobbs named All-America by NISCA

    Chatfield sophomore diver Averly Hobbs, who placed second at the 5A state girls swimming and diving championships in February, has been chosen as one of four divers from Colorado to be named an All-American.
    The National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association announced the list earlier this month. There were 100 female divers on the list.

  • Rogers joins twin in the pros

    Tyler Rogers was sitting on the couch in his brother’s apartment in Fort Myers, Fla., watching the webcast of the annual Major League Baseball amateur draft. It was late on June 7, with just a handful of picks left in the 10th round and his name yet to be called.
    Rogers, who had watched the broadcast all day, shut his computer down but still had it up on the TV. He didn’t think he would be drafted, at least not on this night. Then the 6-foot-4, 190-pound right-handed reliever heard his name called as the 312th selection overall by the San Francisco Giants.

    The seventh annual Dakota Ridge baseball camp went off without a hitch last week, attracting more than 100 kids ranging from elementary to high school, but one 20-year-old was missing.

    Chatfield Senior to host camps July 31-Aug 2 and Aug. 5-8
    Chatfield Senior High School will be hosting a volleyball camp for incoming 5th-8th graders July 31-Aug 2 and for incoming 9th-12th graders Aug. 5-8 in the main gymnasium.
    Start and ending time have yet to be determined.
    Cost is $50, which includes a T-shirt.

    Last summer, Steve Schimpeler had a clue of what was in store for the Chatfield Chargers’ boys basketball program for the 2012-13 season. But maybe even he wasn’t fully aware of just how special this team would truly be.

    Kristyn Peters’ record-breaking season at Dakota Ridge High School in which she led the Lady Eagles to a berth in the state championship game has landed her as the 2012-13 Columbine Courier Female Athlete of the Year.

    Columbine wrestling coach Mark Baltazar said the trick to Brian Mayberry’s successful 2012-13 wrestling season was keeping him healthy and avoiding any major injuries. That almost didn’t happen.

  • Jeffco Open Space seeking to...

    Jefferson County Open Space is looking to streamline its process for acquiring property. 

    During the Open Space Advisory Committee's retreat last week, committee members discussed a blanket resolution that would allow the Open Space Division to enter into negotiations for property that fits into its master plan.

    Under the current system, if Open Space is approached by a landowner wishing to sell property, it must seek permission from the advisory committee before beginning negotiations.
