ARVADA — If Tuesday afternoon at Nate Jurney Field was any indiction, Class 5A Jeffco League baseball is going to be very entertaining over the next four weeks.
Ralston Valley, No. 9 in the latest CHSAANow.com 5A baseball poll, started conference play with a walk-off 4-3 victory at home against Dakota Ridge. Sophomore Billy Wall came through with a hard-hit single in the bottom of the seventh inning to score junior Otto Jones from second base.

BROOMFIELD — A little frost delay wasn’t going to hold back the Columbine girls golf team.
Following a strong performance from the Rebels’ top four golfers at the Broadlands Golf Course on April 4, the team finished second overall at the Jeffco League tournament with 375 collective strokes, 33 behind first-place Ralston Valley.

  • Dakota Ridge snuffs Columbine

LITTLETON — A little tendonitis wasn’t going to stop Peyton Hamel.
In a matchup between Dakota Ridge’s No. 1 singles player and Columbine’s Jamie Chase on Tuesday at Marker Park, Hamel started out strong and wavered a bit in the middle of the competition before putting Chase away quickly in the final game.
Hamel continued her undefeated streak as she went on to win, 6-4, 6-4.
Despite her early success, she’s had her fair share of struggles, and it showed at times against Chase.

DENVER — Shutout wins are great, but no-hitters are far more exciting.

And Chatfield’s senior Kasey Koppelmaa threw a beautiful game on Saturday at the Regency Athletic Complex at Metro State University against Heritage, leading his team to a 4-0 shutdown.

    It was his first-ever no-hitter.

LAKEWOOD — Columbine’s boys lacrosse first-year coach Henry Sulzbacher might have been the most nervous person on Friday at Trailblazer Stadium.

“Tons of nerves,” Sulzbacher admitted about his feelings coming into his first game coaching the No. 4 ranked team in the CHSAANow.com Class 5A boys lacrosse pre-season rankings. “With so much talent, it’s like the scariest position. I think we are really good. We came out firing, so that eased the nerves a little bit.”
